What Is Boveda?
If you're serious about cigars, you've heard the name. Boveda is the world's first and only patented 2-way humidity control system — and it's the gold standard for keeping your cigars in perfect condition. Whether you're storing a single stick or a walk-in humidor, Boveda does the heavy lifting so you don't have to.

Where Is Boveda Made?
Boveda is proudly made in the USA, headquartered in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Founded in 1997 by Bob Esse and Tim Swail, the company set out to solve one of the oldest problems in cigar storage: maintaining consistent, accurate humidity. Over 25 years later, Boveda is trusted by cigar manufacturers, master blenders, and enthusiasts in over 50 countries worldwide.

Why Is Boveda the No.1 Product for Cigar Humidity?

Maintaining the right humidity level (typically 65–72% RH for cigars) is critical. Too dry and your cigars crack, lose flavour, and burn unevenly. Too humid and they become spongy, develop mould, and are nearly impossible to smoke. Traditional humidification methods — sponges, gel beads, distilled water — require constant monitoring and adjustment. Boveda doesn't.
Here's why Boveda stands apart:
- 2-Way Control: Boveda both adds and absorbs moisture as needed, maintaining a precise RH level automatically.
- Salt-Water Science: Each pack uses a saturated salt solution that naturally regulates humidity to a specific percentage — no guesswork, no calibration.
- No Propylene Glycol: Unlike many traditional humidification products, Boveda contains no harmful chemicals that can taint the flavour of your cigars.
- Consistent & Accurate: Boveda maintains humidity within ±1% of the stated RH — something no other product on the market can match.
- Trusted by the Industry: Major cigar brands including Arturo Fuente, Davidoff, and Padron ship their cigars with Boveda packs inside the box. That says everything.
How to Use Boveda
Using Boveda couldn't be simpler — that's part of the appeal.
- Choose the right RH level. For most cigars, 65% or 69% RH is ideal. If you prefer a slightly more moist smoke, 72% works well. Check the manufacturer's recommendation if unsure.
- Choose the right size. Boveda comes in several sizes — from the small 8g packs for travel cases and small humidors, up to the large 320g packs for cabinet humidors. A general rule: one 60g pack per 25 cigars.
- Place it in your humidor. Simply place the Boveda pack inside your humidor alongside your cigars. No activation, no soaking, no fuss.
- Leave it to work. Boveda will automatically bring your humidor to the correct RH level and maintain it. Check every few months.
- Replace when hard. When the pack becomes stiff and rigid, it's time to replace it. A fresh pack will restore your humidor to optimal conditions quickly.
Tips for Getting the Most from Boveda

- Season a new humidor with Boveda before adding cigars — place 2–3 packs inside for 14 days to properly condition the wood.
- Don't mix different RH levels in the same humidor — they'll work against each other.
- Store unused Boveda packs in a sealed bag to preserve their lifespan.
- Boveda is safe to touch your cigars directly — no wrapper damage, no staining.
