We Let Our Customers Pick the Weirdest Pairings – Here’s What Won!

We threw the question out to you lovely lot on our site and socials: “What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever paired with a cigar?” No rules, proper British honesty encouraged. You did not disappoint. From garden-shed experiments to proper posh surprises, here are the top 8 weirdest pairings that actually won the vote. Some are bonkers, some are brilliant, and a few had us proper gobsmacked.
Shade Grown

1. Irn-Bru + Medium-Bodied Cigars (Try Quorum Shade Grown Corona Cigar)
Scotland’s other national drink stole the show. The bright, slightly metallic orange tang cuts through spice beautifully and brings out citrus and cream notes. One Glaswegian customer called it “a revelation after a long day.”

La Invicta Honduran
2. Strong Breakfast Tea (with a splash of milk) + Connecticut Shade or Mild Cigars (Try La Invicta Honduran Tubed Cigar - Petit Corona)
Proper builder’s tea! The malty, tannic edge balances creamy tobaccos perfectly. Several customers swore by a good strong cuppa (Yorkshire Tea or PG Tips) – especially in the afternoon. Very civilised indeed.

Quorum – Maduro
3. Cloudy Lemonade (or traditional Victorian Lemonade) + Nicaraguan or Maduro Cigars (Try Quorum – Maduro)
The sharp, cloudy sweetness tempers heavy earth and pepper notes like magic. One chap paired it with a full-bodied stick on a hot summer’s day and said it was “better than any fancy cocktail.”
Guantanamera Cristales Cuban Cigar
4. Vanilla Custard or Proper Custard Cream Biscuits + Lightly Sweet Cigars (Try Guantanamera Cristales Cuban Cigar)
A warm bowl of Bird’s custard or a packet of Custard Creams with a mild Connecticut? Customers went mad for this. Creamy, comforting, and very British – like a cigar version of a Sunday teatime treat.

Cigar with a label on a reflective surface
5. Espresso Martini (or just a strong flat white) + Medium to Full Cigars (Try LUIS MARTINEZ Crystal Robusto)
The coffee hit with a cheeky vodka kick was a big hit. The bitterness plays nicely with chocolate and nut notes. One Londoner said it’s now his go-to after-work wind-down.
Principes Robusto Maduro
6. Sticky Toffee Pudding or Treacle Tart + Maduro / Oscuro Cigars (Try Principes Robusto Maduro)
Rich, sticky, caramelised British puddings with dark, sweet cigars? Absolute winner. The toffee and date flavours amplify the cigar’s natural sweetness. Proper decadence.

Chubby Robusto
7. Mature Cheddar & Branston Pickle on Crackers + Earthy Dominican or Honduran Cigars (Try Antonio Gimenez Chubby Robusto)
A proper Ploughman’s-style nibble. The sharp, tangy cheese and sweet pickle cut through creamy or earthy smoke brilliantly. Submitted by a few countryside customers – very civilised garden pairing.

Cigar with a brand label on a black background
8. Ginger Beer (the proper fiery sort, like Fentimans or Crabbie’s) + Spicier Cigars (Try Vegueros Entretiempos)
The spicy, warming ginger bite complements peppery and earthy tobaccos without overpowering them. Several people said it’s their new summer favourite – especially with a wedge of lime.

Vegafina Classic
Bonus runner up: RedBull Original or Sugar Free and Milk + Mild-to-Medium Cigar (Vegafina Classic Robusto Cigar)
Milk is all about creaminess and smoothness — you want a cigar that echoes those qualities without overwhelming the palate, The carbonation and sweetness of Red Bull call for a cigar that won't overpower — something light-to-medium with natural sweetness or honey notes to complement the citrus tang.
